Good Content, Better Content and Best Content.

by   Joan Maughan

Good website content is essential for the ongoing success of a web based business. Not just any content, but content targeted toward your niche market. The following outline will assist you in writing quality copy.

  • Relevant Content
  • Content must be relevant, well optimized and give the reader quality information. Keep to the point don’t use unnecessary filler just to fill the page. Write naturally, in other words tell your story as though you were explaining something to a friend. Ensure you have all the points covered, that your copy has described your product and/or service and provides the information your visitor has searched for.

  • Accuracy
  • Ensure your content is factually correct and gives honest and accurate information. Check your grammar and spelling. Don’t rely totally on the spellchecker to do this, it cannot tell the difference between the use of “their” and “there” for example.

  • Use original content
  • This is becoming more and more important as search engines, notably Google, are penalizing sites for duplicate content. Articles and “cloned” Affiliate Websites in particular are being targeted.

Writing your own articles based on your niche market, is a sure way to provide current original content. If you are unsure about writing yourself, there are many great products out there that will show you just how easy it is to write.

The use of PLR (Private Label Rights) content is fine providing you re-write a considerable portion of the content. Always remember if you are using the PLR content, it's likely hundreds of other website owners are doing the exact same thing. Choosing good quality PLR articles is vital and the majority of providers charge a membership fee. I have found one great source for niche focused PLR articles, and you don't have to pay a membership fee but instead buy credits for the amount of articles you wish to purchase. A great idea. • Keywords
  • Correct use of keywords and keyword phrases is another important point to remember. Once again, don’t overdo it by stuffing articles with keywords. If it doesn’t flow well and make sense, using keywords unnecessarily could very well come under the scrutiny of Google. Most top copywriters recommend a density of around 2% usage of keywords. Use different combinations, synonyms and related words. For example if your main keyword phrase is “affiliate marketing”, you could use “affiliate marketing strategy”, “affiliate resources”, “affiliate commission” and so on.

  • Format
  • Use subheadings and sub-topics in bullet form. Keep you sentences and paragraphs short. This makes for easier reading, especially for those who “skim” read. People are busy and in a hurry these days, so the quicker you can give them what they are searching for the more chance you have of either making a sale or gaining a new subscriber to your list – whatever your purpose is.

  • Keep Content Current
  • Constantly update your content, adding new information at least 3 to 4 times per week. This may seem a big task, but your articles or product information does not have to be lengthy. Articles can be anywhere from 350 to 600 words, product information is normally longer as it should be giving good descriptions, benefits and value of the product being promoted.

Basically, the biggest point to remember is that you are providing your visitors with information in one form or another. If you can do this by giving value and good quality well written content you will not only keep your visitors happy, you will also have more chance of being ranked well with the search engines.
